Ranitomeya Uakarii Standard

Bright orange stripes begin in a U shape along the head reaching down into yellow stripes with blue to grey-blue spotted legs. The Uakarii is small terrestrial poison frog primarily living in the lower forest floor, hiding out among the leaves and hunting only by day while occasionally making their way up into the forest canopy to hangout in bromilliads and deposit newly hatched tadpoles.

Housed in captivity they require a deep bed of leaf litter, with a well draining and healthy substrate in place prior to adding the frogs. As small as they are, Uakarii still hold to the the 1 frog per 10 gallon rule as breeding females will tend to fight and stress each other. Uakarii males are generally a bit slimmer and make a very faint call while taking on most of the parental care once eggs have been laid.
